LAKEPORT, Calif. — A lot of anglers might have thought they had Clear Lake figured out in practice. Then the weather turned cold, and Ish Monroe’s and Greg Gutierrez’ histories here made hash of their notes.
For them, it was a matter of knowing their way around a modest-sized lake that produced for guys who fished reliable spots.
Between them, the two Northern California anglers blitzed their old haunts for more than 65 pounds of bass to take the top two slots after the first day of the Bassmaster Elite Series’ Golden State Shootout presented by Evan Williams Bourbon.
